Your course and its navigation

Get oriented in an empty course and decide what students see.

A Blackboard course opens to the Course Content page, where you build and arrange everything students use. Along the side you also find course areas such as Content, Calendar, Announcements, Discussions, Gradebook, Messages, and Roster. Students see a streamlined version of the course.

Keep the Course Content page focused and clearly labeled so students are not hunting for what matters. A tidy, well-named top level does more for navigation than any single setting.

How to do this in Blackboard

Official step-by-step instructions. Each opens in a new tab so you don’t lose your place in the course.

Accessibility checkpoint

A clear, logically ordered student-facing view is easier for everyone to navigate, including keyboard and screen-reader users who move through it in order.
