Why online courses need their own review
Online courses carry quality dimensions that in-person courses handle in the room.
Everything so far applies to any course, but online courses carry extra quality dimensions that in-person courses handle implicitly in the room. When there is no instructor physically present, the course site has to do more: orient students, carry your presence, structure interaction, and make everything findable on its own. This is why the major quality frameworks, Quality Matters and OSCQR, were built specifically for online and blended courses.
If you teach online, it is worth reviewing your course against an online-specific rubric. The remaining topics highlight the dimensions that matter most online, and point you to Quality Matters and OSCQR for a full, formal review when you want one.
