Talk with students about integrity

Set expectations clearly and treat integrity as part of learning.

Students follow integrity expectations they understand and see as fair. State plainly what counts as acceptable collaboration, citation, and outside help on each kind of assignment, since these norms differ by discipline and by task and students cannot read your mind. Explain why the work matters for their learning, not only that breaking a rule has consequences.

If you do suspect a problem, follow your institution’s process, focus on the specific work, and give the student a fair hearing. A measured, consistent response protects both the standard and the student, and it models the integrity you are trying to teach.
