Access and cost disparities
AI access is uneven, and your course design should account for it.
The best AI tools often sit behind a subscription, and access to reliable devices and internet is not universal among your students. If an assignment assumes everyone has the same paid tool, you build in an advantage for students who can afford it and a barrier for those who cannot.
Design with that in mind. If AI use is required, point to a free option and do not assume the premium one. If AI use is optional, make sure students who opt out are not disadvantaged. The goal is that a student’s success in your course depends on their learning, not on which tools they can pay for.
