Pace with requirements and prerequisites

Decide what students can see and when, and guide them through it in order.

Start with visibility. Unpublished content is hidden from students, which is useful while you build. Publish an item when it is ready for students to see.

For timing, there is no single right answer, and the point is to have a clear reason for the choice you make. Some instructors open everything at once so students can work ahead; others release week by week so attention is not pulled to week 12 during week 1. Canvas Modules support requirements, where a student must view a page, submit an assignment, or earn a minimum score before moving on, and prerequisites, where a module unlocks only after an earlier one is complete. You can also lock a module until a date. Used lightly, these keep students on a sensible path; used heavily, they frustrate, so apply them only where sequence genuinely matters.
