Build with Learning Modules and Documents

Build your course body with structured units instead of decontextualized files.

On the Course Content page, hover over the line between items until a plus appears, then add content. Use Learning Modules to group a unit’s materials in order, and Documents to present text, images, and embedded media on an accessible page.

Prefer a Document that frames a reading over uploading a lone PDF. There are real reasons to frame rather than dump: a Document is accessible, works on a phone, and lets you tell students why a reading is here and what to do with it. A decontextualized file does none of that, so students are left guessing at its purpose. Reserve file uploads for downloads students genuinely need to keep.

How to do this in Blackboard

Official step-by-step instructions. Each opens in a new tab so you don’t lose your place in the course.

Accessibility checkpoint

Documents let you use real headings, alt text, and meaningful link text. A wall of uploaded files does none of that work for you.
